Do you know? (from RCIA)

Do you know if a person from another faith tradition has to be  baptized again to be received into the Catholic church?

Baptism happens just once in a lifetime. The Sacrament of Baptism changes us, linking us with the communion of believers, making us part of “a royal priesthood, a holy nation” (Peter 2:0). That change can never be wiped away. Because of this, the Catholic Church never repeats this sacrament. Baptism administered in other Christian churches, with the pouring of water and the words “I baptize you in the name of the father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit,” (Christian Initiation, Gen. Intro,. 23) is honored in the Catholic church. The sacrament is the same even for many churches that are not in full communion with the Catholic church.

Construction Update!

The construction continues to progress well, on target for cost and for timing.   Even as work has been periodically rescheduled due to several children’s masses, funerals, and other liturgical activities, the project remains on schedule.  Take a minute to look at the stone being installed.  It has a great appearance and will have the leak free durability we need. The major scaffolding on the north gable is already removed and reset for the next phases of work.   The top of the tower has been refurbished and, if you look carefully, you will see the brick repairs.  Also, you will notice the newly treated surfaces are bright and the required flashings and expansion joints are completed.  You may have noticed the stacked pallets of new roofing base in the Northwest parking lot as roof work will begin soon.

All of the construction activities have been coordinated to permit the set up and running of the Festival as usual.  The Northwest parking lot will continue to be unavailable until further notice.   The schedule for construction has been adjusted for three weeks around Christmas to ensure the smooth running of the many liturgical events that surround the holiday.

Why Would Anyone Become Catholic? (from

The Search for Truth Leads to the Catholic Church

Why would intelligent, successful people give up careers, alienate friends, and cause havoc in their families . . . to become Catholic? The movie, Convinced, shares the story of over 20 people from all walks of life as they journey towards home to the Catholic Church.

Featuring Dr. Scott Hahn, Jennifer Fulwiler, Abby Johnson, Jeff Cavins, Brandon Vogt, and many more!

I LOVE every journey of how each person came to believe the Catholic faith. I feel the video covers a wide span of questioning and processing for each individual, which relates to so many searching for the truth.

Passport to Our Heritage 2018

Passport to our Heritage is St. Michael’s major fundraising event. An exciting social event for guests age 21 and over, “Passport” encourages the involvement of the entire St. Michael Community, celebrating our past and investing into the future of our school and parish.

The event features various “Ports of Call”, where our families donate their time, talent and treasure to provide specialty cuisine and cocktails representing their cultural heritage. You can travel from Port to Port, experiencing the world through our own community. The event also features live and silent auctions, with something for everyone including fantastic packages from area businesses and unique opportunities within our own community. There are fun games and prizes to win, and a DJ plays to dance the night away.

Tickets are on sale beginning March 12th for $40 per person. Tickets will also be $50 per person at the door. Ticket prices include food at all ports, as well as beer and wine throughout the evening. Specialty cocktails are also available for purchase at the ports.

Saturday, April 21st, 2018                        5:30 PM – Midnight

There is so much to do as Passport…

Camaraderie, dining and dancing are just the “takeoff” events of the night. The voyage continues throughout the night with the highlight event, the Live and Silent Auctions.

Included in the auctions are amazing products and packages donated from local community members and businesses, alongside other parish items you might not expect, like:

  • Limo Lunch with Miss Kennedy
  • Reserved Front Pew at First Communion Masses
  • Dinner with Father Marty at the Rectory

Another feature of the auction are the Kids’ Projects. Close to the hearts of our St. Michael Catholic School parents, these crafty projects are created by each class of children, preschool through 8th Grade, for your enjoyment. But the auction highlights do not stop there. Also included is Bubbles and Bling. This exclusive subset of our silent auction features gorgeous pieces from local fine jewelers and specialty accessories.

From the Ports of Call…

The “boarding pass” ticket price includes the all-you-can-eat specialty cuisine at our ports of call. Cultural ports vary each year, but have included:

  • Germany
  • India
  • Ireland
  • Italy
  • Mexico
  • Poland
  • USA

Taste your way around the world without having to leave Northwest Indiana. Beer and wine are also included with the “boarding pass” ticket. Additional specialty cocktails are available for purchase at each port.

…to the Final Destination

All the proceeds of Passport to our Heritage benefit the St. Michael Parish Community.

St. Michael Catholic School provides a quality Catholic education to students attending preschool through 8th Grade. In addition, over six hundred children receive instruction in their faith through our Faith Formation program.

Our school and parish take the utmost pride in providing an excellent education for our future leaders, with a devoted staff in a family-oriented environment.

How You Can Help…
